Depending on how you set up a digital camera, image files can take up little disk space. This gives you the possibility of storing thousands of photos on your computer. A large number of pictures are difficult to manage with standard tools, but you can find various applications on the market which allow you to organize images in one way or another. JPhotoTagger provides multiple solutions for managing pictures. You can tag them with keywords, rate them, organize your files in different albums and much more.

The software can be installed on Windows platforms with a standard .exe setup file, but you can find a cross platform version as well. It is written in Java, which makes it compatible with any operating system that supports Java. Besides that, you don't have to go through an installation process if you opt for the cross platform edition. You just need to extract the application's files from a ZIP archive and run its executable.

The user interface is divided into three areas. You can explore your folders in a tree menu, located on the left side of the window and you can find their contained pictures in the central region. Additionally, you may select various tabs, above the tree structure, if you want to browse through albums, favorite pictures, rated items, keywords or other filtering criteria.

While a picture is selected, you can view its EXIF, IPTC and XMP information on separate tabs, located on the right side of the interface. Furthermore, you may edit the information and assign keywords to one or more pictures, in the same area. The software allows you to assign keywords, one by one, by typing them in the appropriate field and clicking a button. Alternatively, you may create word collections in a separate window. When you select an existing collection from a drop menu, the contained words will appear in the same editing area and you can assign them to the selected pictures with a single click.

Right clicking one or more images will reveal a series of useful options in a pop-up menu. You can associate script files to your pictures, upload them to Flickr, send them to a new album or to an existing one, copy and paste their metadata and much more. Besides different browsing methods, the software provides standard filtering and sorting options, so you can view images with specific extensions and arrange them by ascending or descending dates and by other criteria. You can also use a search function to look for images by their name tags or other information.

Pros

JPhotoTagger provides various ways of managing pictures. It allows you to tag them with keywords, place them in separate albums and more. The software is free and you can use it on various operating systems, if they provide support for Java.

Cons

If you opt for the Windows setup file, you may experience a few difficulties on 64-bit operating systems. With JPhotoTagger, you can organize countless pictures, without any effort, on various operating systems.
